MID/NORTHERN, Mich. — The bipartisan commission responsible for redistricting Michigan completed drafting new Congressional districts.
Michigan's First Congressional district will lose Manistee and Mason Counties but gained a portion of Wexford County and all of Missaukee, Roscommon, Ogemaw, Iosco, and Arenac counties. The district still covers all of the Upper Peninsula and most of the northern Lower Peninsula, including Northeast Michigan.
The Lorinser for Congress campaign said although it's unfortunate to say goodbye to Mason and Manistee counties, they are pleased with the map and the process. Lorinser said he is eager to welcome more counties to Michigan's 1st Congressional district.
"We are already engaging with leaders in Missaukee, Roscommon, Ogemaw, Iosco, Arenac, and Wexford counties to ensure every citizen will feel represented," said Dr. Lorinser. "We're proud of our early outreach efforts in these areas and are eager to engage the constituency further so I can best represent rural Michigan values. Our campaign team is planning the second half of our district-wide listening tour now, and we're excited to visit with people in our new six counties."

"We are ready to defeat Jack Bergman. He has not represented our district in any effective way. Bergman discounted our votes in the last election; he called infrastructure improvements a waste of money; he voted against improvements in Veteran Affairs facilities; he has done nothing to improve our lives as rural Americans. I will.
"I am a rural Michigander. I lived here for three decades. I raised a family here. I work here. I know, cared for, and served the people of this great district for most of my career. These communities are part of me."

Dr. Lorinser says he's confident in his campaign's ability to rally all voters and show them a better candidacy.
"We have real solutions, not divisive rhetoric," said Dr. Lorinser. "It doesn't matter what party you belong to; no one appreciates dishonesty and ineffective leadership. I strive to offer voters an honest and ethical alternative to Jack Bergman.
"I am proud to be a lifelong Democrat because of the traditional achievements we accomplished with political temperance — Social Security, Medicaid / Medicare, labor laws, Civil Rights, environmental conservation, and more. But, our Nation, State, and District have been torn apart, and I'm running on unity. I'm interested in independent, common-sense solutions that best fit Mid-Northern Michigan and the U.P.'s collective values. I will advance policy that's in the best interest of my constituents, no matter which side of the aisle those solutions originate.
"We agree more than we disagree on many fundamental issues – living wages, family-sustaining jobs, resilient small business, made-in-America manufacturing, affordable housing, and an overall thriving economy."
Dr. Bob Lorinser hopes to move the district forward with what unites citizens, not what divides. "I trust enough people will appreciate that, whether they're liberal or conservative," he said.
Lorinser says Rep. Jack Bergman creates more problems than he solves for citizens across the political spectrum. He believes the current Representative wouldn't offer much to a new, larger district other than more division and discord.
"The people have had enough," said Dr. Lorinser. "My opponent blindly toes the party line from its very furthest wing, even when it's detrimental to the district. I hear it every day from both sides. Americans are tired of this. It's time for someone with the courage to be independent and offer real solutions for Michigan.
"We are humbly asking our generous supporters to join us in ramping up our fundraising efforts," said Dr. Lorinser. "We need to spread this unifying message across more land and offer Michigan a new day in independent political representation."
As of now, Dr. Bob Lorinser appears to remain unopposed in the Democratic primary.
