ANTRIM COUNTY, Mich. — Live on Facebook, Dr. Bob Lorinser, candidate for US Congress in Michigan's 1st District, premiered a preview of the scathing investigative PBS documentary by ProPublica, "The Plot to Overturn the Election." The full one-hour Frontline episode highlights Allied Security Operations Group (ASOG)'s controversial activities in Antrim County.

What is in the documentary?

ASOG conducted a rash audit of Antrim County's Dominion voting machines, falsely concluding intentional election fraud. In the documentary, J. Alex Halderman, one of the country's most prominent experts on voting systems, said the report was full of "obvious errors and false claims." Yet, Bergman and others used the faulty evidence to ignite and fuel the Big Lie across the country.

Halderman says the report was "grasping at straws and just trying to find anything that might be used to spin a narrative about fraud." He says "the public's trust has been greatly undermined."

How is Bergman connected?

Just before the documentary aired, an exposé report by the Record Eagle discovered that Jack Bergman coordinated with ASOG in December 2020 to schedule the audit. Bergman was involved with the controversial Dallas-based group, catching Republican officials off-guard.

Dr. Lorinser says the documentary shows what triggered a nationwide conspiracy theory that ignited the Jan. 6 insurrection.

"'Plot to Overturn the Election' shows the faulty audit with which Jack Bergman interfered," said Dr. Lorinser. "Knowing full well the results in Antrim were caused by an honest mistake in a Republican clerk's office, my opponent doubled-down on election conspiracy theories. He clearly knew fraud did not exist, and still used ASOG's error-ridden report to spread lies and justify his attempt to de-certify the election."

What does the exposé include?

According to the Record Eagle, Bergman's assistance to ASOG mystified local Republican election officials.

"A congressman from Michigan, in December 2020, helped coordinate county officials and out-of-state political operatives who were granted access to examine Dominion voting machines in Antrim County.

"Jack Bergman, a third-term Republican congressman representing Michigan’s First District, was not on site for the court-ordered exam, records show, but he exchanged calls with county officials to arrange the arrival time of the Allied Security Operations Group team.

"Bergman’s calls are referenced in internal emails the county prosecutor’s office released in response to a Freedom of Information Act request filed by the Record-Eagle.

"Ed Boettcher, a Republican who in 2020 chaired the county’s Board of Commissioners said he had two conversations with Bergman, a one-on-one and a conference call.

"'I have no insight as to why,' Boettcher said, of Bergman’s involvement. 'I had that question in my mind — ‘You’re not a plaintiff, you’re not an attorney, why are you involved?’ — and I didn’t have any answers.'

"On Jan. 6, 2021, Bergman objected to Electoral College votes in Arizona and Pennsylvania, citing what he called in a statement posted on his official congressional website, irregularities, fraud, and failure to follow election laws."

What does Doc think?

"We now know that my opponent was more than just part of the Big Lie," said Dr. Lorinser. "He was the sole member of Congress responsible for igniting it nationwide from ground-zero in Antrim County."

Dr. Lorinser calls Bergman's actions "disturbing, shocking, and worthy of further investigation", claiming the Representative's involvement threatens the principles upon which this nation was born. Lorinser also says just as disturbing is Bergman's staffer claiming the challenges in Antrim county were not political or partisan.

"The voters of the 1st District demand accountability and an explanation directly from our Congressperson why he was involved at all," said Dr. Lorinser. "As indicated by sources in the investigative report, my opponent's behavior here is highly unusual, suspicious, and clearly partisan-motivated. This was not only shameful and dishonest; it was a real threat to the country.

"Doubling down on a lie is not strength. It's dishonorable." —Dr. Lorinser.

"It's time to end the dishonesty, tales of falsehoods, and outright lies," said Dr. Lorinser. "We must return to a 'government of the people, by the people, for the people.' We need honesty in Congress, and I look forward to the opportunity to bring dignity and integrity back to this office for Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula."
