Big money in politics is the pollution of leaders

We need to elect Congresspeople that dare to do what is right and stand on principle, regardless of how it will affect their campaign finances.

The Dr. Bob Lorinser for Congress campaign is 100% funded by individual donors. With a deadline in 10 days, Dr. Bob is up against corporate PACS and dark money. We need you. Can you pitch in and make a contribution today?

WASHINGTON, DC. – I can't help but comment on members of Congress and their recent positions on important issues – issues that affect everyone in our nation. I'm disappointed to consistently learn of what appears to be a conflict of interest in governing, and it boils down to money.

The influence of special interest groups, lobbyists, corporate PACS, and wealthy donors on American politics is too great. Congressional rules should not be more lenient than the executive branch which is reviewed for potential conflicts of interest, subjecting them to a requirement to divest, recuse or seek a waiver.

The corruption isn't limited to a specific party either. Money influences Republicans and Democrats incumbents alike, and money gets them reelected. Even if legally acquired, politicians' financial benefit hinders their ability to do their jobs effectively. The more outside money politicians take, the less well they represent their constituents. The best leaders in Congress will follow their districts, not their donors.

When you look at how our members of Congress vote, ask yourself — Did it benefit us in the district? Did they compromise their principles and not vote in the best interest of their constituents? Did they do it to get reelected?

Too often what’s best for the people is thwarted for positions that benefit wealthy donors' wallets. We need to elect candidates that dare to do what is right and stand on principle regardless of how it will affect their campaign finances.

Campaign finance reform is overdue and much needed.

Establishing a winning campaign requires a lot of resources, but at the expense of what? Our campaign prides itself on being funded 100% by individual donors, like you, and fundraising is going well. I grew up in a working-class rural household with six children, so I know the value of a dollar, and nothing is going to waste. Nobody has bought my vote or influenced my political positions with a check.

If asking for money is the quality of a good politician, I’m no politician. But I know where I stand, and I know the source of our donations. I believe in a democracy, not a society ruled or controlled by people of great wealth.

If you agree with me, we are 10 days from our FEC fundraising deadline, and to meet our goal, we need dozens of small donors to step up and pitch in. Can you contribute today to help us build the momentum and people-power we need to defeat corporate PAC influence in Congress?

Any amount you can give will help our grassroots effort in unseating an incumbent who isn’t representing the hardworking people of Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. Jack Bergman is not answering to the people.
